Szu-Chi Huang Novel Bandwidth-Efficient Optical Duo-Quaternary Modulation and Its Transmission Performance

Optical duo-quaternary (DQ) modulation combines two orthogonal duobinary modulation signal in the form of 4-level pulse amplitude modulation. DQ modulation can achieve higher spectral efficiency and better tolerance to chromatic dispersion; meanwhile, the receiver only requires cost-effective direct detection.

Min-Jyun Jiang Simple Post-Equalizer for Solar Cell Based Visible Light Communication

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a simple post-equalizer to enhance the transmission performance of solar-cell based visible light communication (VLC) system. Both first-order and second-order post-equalizers are studied.

Ting-Yu Liao Mode-locked pulses with broadband spectrum bandwidth from a net-normal dispersion Yb-doped fiber laser based on cascaded Raman scattering

We investigated the soltion dynamics in passive mode-locked Yb-doped fiber laser (PML-YDFL) based on nonlinear polarization rotation mechanism (NPR). After adding a single mode fiber inside laser cavity, the threshold power for Raman scattering can be efficiently reduced to produce a cascade Raman scattering without an external power amplification system.

Rei-Shin Chen Study of Wavelength Modulation of Optical MEMS Accelerometer Based on a Photonic Crystal Ring Resonator

Two configurations for the movable part of a photonic crystal ring resonator used in an optical micro-electro-mechanical accelerometer are designed and simulated. Wavelength modulation of the accelerometer is numerically simulated and the results are compared for the two designs.

Hsin-Mao Hsu Analysis of Surface Plasmon Polariton Modes on Coupled Square-Cylinder Silver Nanowires Supported by Silica Substrate

Single and coupled square-cylinder silver nanowires placed on silica substrate are solved for their modes. Both guided modes and leaky modes are found on each structure. The relation between the modes on the coupled structure and the coupling between the two corresponding single nanowires is studied.

Yi-Jun Xu All-optical filter based on metal-insulator-metal plasmonic waveguides with triangle-tooth-shape nano-resonators

An all-optical filter based on metal-insulator-metal plasmonic waveguides with triangle-tooth-shape nano-resonators is proposed and investigated numerically. The numerical results show that the resonant wavelengths can be easily manipulated by adjusting the radius and refractive-index of the nanocavity, which is in good agreement with the results obtained by finite-difference time-domain simulations.

This paper we have designed and built a single-crystal fiber growth apparatus.We describe the results of our experiments with directional solidification of Tellurium Oxide (TeO2) single-crystal fibers using the laser heated pedestal growth(LHPG)technique.

Zi-Qing Yang Wavelength-Selectable and Steady Single-Mode Erbium-Doped Fiber Multiple Ring Laser

To achieve a stable and selectable C-band erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser with single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) output, the multiple ring architecture is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. Here, we use the passively quadruple-ring structure in the EDF laser system to serve as the mode-filter for suppressing the other modes significantly.
