We present the optical measurement of the progressive addition lenses (PALs) by Hartmann-Shack wavefront sensor and polarized photoelsticity technique. Four progressive addition lenses with different powers were measured and analyzed. The results show that the proposed system is feasible to evaluate optical characteristics of PALs with non-contact inspection.

Jing-Huan Lin Award Candidate Optical Scanning Path Analysis for a Coaxial-rotating Prism Pair

The study is to analyze optical scanning paths for a coaxial-rotating prism pair. The prisms are rotated by two motors aligned coaxially and full-field scanning can be achieved. Several optical scanning paths are predicted through MATLAB with respect to different rotating speeds of motors.

Yu-ching Yeh Award Candidate Optical Design of Novel microstructure for Laser Diode Light Guide Plate

A new type of microstructure light guide plate (LGP) with interface reflection and Brewster angle is proposed. Using the polarized laser diode as the light source, the efficiency of the liquid crystal module can be enhanced up to 60%.

Orbital angular momentum (OAM) has special properties, such as the phase singularity and spatial orthogonality. In this study, we used the optical transparent masks printed by laser printer and LCD display of projector to generate the light bean with OAM, which provide an alternative to the expensive spatial light modulator.

This study used Zinc fuel cell,it can be used in life-saving equipmen.If a shipwreck, drowning person can wear the new micro-control type photovoltaic element rescue apparatus. The lighting and signals of the optoelectronic components allows the rescuers to find every drowning person in a dark sea.

Yu-Jie Xiao Development of sinusoidal phase modulation grating interferometer for displacement measurement

A high-precision displacement measurement system, sinusoidal phase modulation grating interferometer, is developed by integrating heterodyne grating interferometry and digital lock-in technique. Experimental results were consistent with the strain gauge results for several displacement ranges. When only high-frequency noise was considered, our method achieved a measurement resolution of approximately 2 nm.

Yu-Chieh Wang A simple system for measuring the twist angle and cell thickness of a twist nematic liquid crystal cell

A simple system to measure the twist angle and cell thickness of the twisted nematic liquid crystal is demonstrated in this paper. By measuring the transmittance of the liquid crystal cell with two wavelengths, the twist angle and cell thickness can be obtained.

Ke-Ching Chang Improvement in Optical Design of the Reflective Non-invasive Blood Glucose Meter

In this study, a non-bilateral symmetrical elliptical mirror (NSEM) is proposed in the non-invasive blood glucose measuring (NBGM). The Henyey-Greenstein model is utilized as the scattering model of the skin. Finally, the optical efficiency of the NBGM with the NSEM is two times of the one with the conventional module.
